Romantic Cornwall.
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we could all do with a few ideas up our sleeve to help celebrate the day of love. Whether you fancy going big and bold with a chopper ride and a private chef, or sweet and simple with a snog and a spot of stargazing, Cornwall has it all. And if you can’t take a date, take a mate!!
Take to the waves…..
Take advantage of our incredible coastline, and head out on the water. You can find group excursions or private charters from most harbour towns, so whether you fancy sailing the ocean blue with just your loved one for company, or joining in with a group of wildlife enthusiasts, there are plenty of options for you.
Or to the skies!
Bit swanky this one, but what could be more romantic than an ariel view of all your favourite places? With several heliports in Cornwall now offering scenic flights, why not take to the skies and enjoy the rush of helicopter travel. Just make sure your other half likes flying first…….
Posh picnic.
Admittedly, not always a winner in February, but if you get one of those clear, crisp days, where the sun is shining and skies are blue, then there is no better place to be than curled up under a blanket on a cliff top with a flask of hot chocolate. Pack a picnic basket full of yummy bits from one of our incredible farm shops or delis and get cosy.
Is food the way to their heart?
Need to impress, or just don’t fancy cooking? A private chef is the perfect way to spoil your other half, and they even take care of the washing up! Plan a special menu or make the most of Cornwall’s incredible produce and go local, even curate your own drinks list. Cornwall’s foodie credentials are well-known, and plenty of chefs offer their services for private dining events, so pick your fave and get them to do the hard work!
Beachside sauna.
If you find it tricky to persuade your better half to join you for a chilly sea swim, why not sweeten the deal by booking an ocean-side sauna? Popping up all over Cornwall, these hot boxes are a great way to beat the winter chill, whilst getting the pulse racing at the same time. You never know, once they’ve got a sweat on in the sauna you may be able to change their mind about that sea swim!
Star gazing at Bedruthan Steps.
This may be a fair-weather option, but as the skies around Bedruthan Steps are a designated Dark Sky Discovery area, there really is no better place to be awed by the night sky. Contemplate your tiny existence whilst snuggling up with a loved one, just promise me you will keep well away from the edge of the cliff….
Superb sunsets.
With so many Westerly facing beaches on this stretch of coast, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to a sunset. Our top picks are Treyarnon and Constantine, where you have an uninterrupted view as the sun dips below the horizon. Keep an eye out for the lucky Green Flash, said to happen as the last rays disappear below the line of the sea. What could be more romantic than a being cosied up in a warm blanket watching the sun go down……?
Vineyard tour.
Nothing says Romance like a belly-full of booze, and here in Cornwall you can take your pick of places to get boozy! The county boasts several award-winning vineyards, where you can tour the vines, try the produce, and learn a few things along the way. Book a taxi to get you home, these things have a habit turning into a long day!
St Michael’s Mount wish stone.
The Mount is steeped in magic, myth, and mystery, and one favourite tale is that of the wish stone, located at the highest point of the island, next to the ancient church. Legend says that is a person seeking romance touches the stone, their proposal to marry will be accepted. So, to all those planning on popping the question on Valentine’s Day, maybe get yourself to St Michaels Mount first!
Shirtless sea swimming…..
Still lusting after Ross Poldark? Get yourself to Porthgwarra Cove and stage your own version of the famous swimming scene. Keep an eye out for out for other beach users as you take to the waters, you never know who could be watching…
Pub with a roaring fire.
Maybe this is just a personal fave, but if the February weather has got the better of you and you need to warm your cockles, get yourself to a proper pub with a roaring fire. Padstow has plenty to choose from, and unlike in the middle of summer, you are almost guaranteed somewhere to perch. Find a cosy corner and wait out the weather, there are certainly worst places to be!
Romantic meal for two!
If you fancy a bit of dinner a deux, Padstow and the surrounding areas have you covered. From Michelin starred restaurants to fish and chips, there are options for every palette and every budget. Book ahead for the big names but check out some of the less glitzy options too as Cornwall’s food scene is bursting with talent, and what better day to discover your new favourite chef than Valentine’s day!
